MASON CITY - The NIACC women's soccer team kicked off its season with a 6-0 victory over Anoka-Ramsey CC Saturday afternoon on the NIACC campus.
NIACC led 4-0 at the half and outscored Anoka-Ramsey 2-0 in the second 45 minutes to claim the non-conference victory. The six goals is the fourth most in a single-game in NIACC women's soccer history.
In 2002, NIACC topped Scott CC 8-2. The Trojans also scored seven goals in a match twice (7-1 win over Scott CC in 2003 and 7-2 win over DCTC in 2017).
NIACC, which led 4-0 at the half, received two goals from Brianna Marchand and single goals from Calista Polk, Gabriella Rivera, Jaya Soor and Kailah Thompson.
Marchand, a freshman forward from Sioux City, scored her two goals in the first half. Polk scored the Trojans first goal of the match and Rivera also added a first-half goal.
In the second half, Soor scored with 27 minutes 23 seconds left in second half and Thompson scored on a penalty kick with about 15 minutes remaining in the contest.
NIACC's Hailey Crew, who just joined the team on Friday, gained the victory in goal as Trojans recorded their 11th shutout in school history. It was the first shutout since the Trojans topped Hawkeye CC 1-0 on April 17, 2021.
NIACC returns to action Sept. 4 at Indian Hills in a non-conference contest.
