Matt Egger is in his third season as NIACC’s head softball coach in the 2023-24 season.

Egger, who has a record of 39-48 at NIACC, guided the Trojans to a regular season record of 36-13 in the 2023 season. The Trojans placed second in the ICCAC Division II with a record of 19-5 and hosted the NJCAA Region 11-B tournament.

Egger was selected as the 2023 ICCAC Division II coach of the year. The Trojans had nine players earn 2023 ICCAC Division II all-region honors, including Laken Lienhard, who was the ICCAC Division II offensive player of the year.

Lienhard was a 2023 NJCAA Division II second-team all-American as a utility player. Katy Olive was the 2023 New Balance/NFCA NJCAA Division II Golden Shoe winner. 

During the 2023 regular season, NIACC had a team batting average of .381 with 78 home runs and 135 doubles. The Trojans scored 459 runs and stole 109 bases.

Egger took over the NIACC softball program in the 2022 season. The Trojans, who were 3-35 in 2022, had three players earn all-NJCAA Region XI honors in 2022 - Hailey Worman (catcher) first-team, Sydney Toman (outfield) honorable mention, Brianna McPoland (utility) honorable mention.

Also in the spring of 2022 under Egger, the Trojans had 10 players earn academic all-NJCAA Region XI honors. Earning first-team academic all-region honors were Toman, Worman, Aleah Hackman, Brianna Notermann, Kayla Noelker, Laken Lienhard, Molly McGuire, Ravyn Krachey and Shaye Theobald. McPoland was a second-team academic all-region selection.

Egger was an assistant softball coach at the University of Northern Iowa from 2012-2017. Egger was the head softball coach at Ellsworth from 2009-12.

At Northern Iowa, Egger's duties were outfield coach, hitting coach, camp coordinator and travel coordinator.

At Northern Iowa in 2016-17, the Panthers had six all-Missouri Valley Conference players, 2 NFCA All- Region players, the MVC Rookie of the Year, the MVC Pitcher of the Year, the MVC Coaching Staff of the year and the MVC Defensive Player of the Year.

At Northern Iowa in 2015-16, the Panthers had four all-MVC players, tied for the second most wins in program history. set seven offensive records in 2016 in batting average (.300), slugging percentage (.475), on-base percentage (.406), home runs (58), walks (223), runs scored (312), and doubles (81).

At Northern Iowa in 2014-15, the Panthers finished third in MVC regular season, had seven NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes, four all-MVC players, two all-regional players and six MVC Athlete of the Week honors.

At Northern Iowa in 2013-14, the Panthers defeated No. 10 University of Texas, received votes to be in the NCAA Top 25 DI Poll, defeated both University of Iowa and Iowa State University, ranked eighth in DI for team doubles and 25th for team home runs per game, had six NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes, four all-MVC players and seven MVC Athletes of the Week honors.

At Northern Iowa in 2012-13, the Panthers were MVC tournament champions, NCAA Tournament/Regional Qualifier, the first UNI NCAA game victory in school history, had four all-MVC players, the MVC Newcomer of the Year player and four MVC Athlete of the Week honors.

As the head coach at Ellsworth, Egger's teams had 19 ICCAC all-region student-athletes, 17 ICCAC Academic all-region student-athletes, two NFCA all-Americans, one NJCAA distinguished academic All-American and one NJCAA all-American.
