Bio

Josh Merrill enteres his third year as the head baseball coach for the Trojans. He assumed the Head Baseball position in June of 2022. During his two full years at the helm the Trojans have won 48 games and have been to the Region 11 tournament two times. During Merrill's time at NIACC Trojan baseball has seen sixteen players receive ICCAC All-Region Honors and one player named to the ABCA NJCAA Division II All-American team in 2023 (Adam Berghult). Merrill is no stranger to helping players transition to the 4-year level as thirty-two players have successfully transferred to 4-year rosters during his time at NIACC. 

Prior to his arrival to NIACC coach Merrill was an assistant coach at the University of Southern Indiana for one year. He was in charge of the recruiting and also worked with the offense, catchers, and outfielders. He was also an assistant coach for two years at Neosho County Community College where he worked with the offense, outfielders, and catchers. 

A Wichita, Kansas native, Merrill was a right-handed pitcher that started his career at Neosho County Community College. During his time at Neosho he was a part of back-to-back trips to the NJCAA DI World Series. After Neosho County, Merrill transferred to the University of Arkansas-Little Rock and later King University. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice in 2015 while finishing up his playing career. Merrill also obtained a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration from Oklahoma State University in 2019. 

Merrill currently resides in Mason City with is wife Jennifer and their four children Carson, Hudson, Oaklee, and Skyler.
