NIACC places fourth at district tournament
ESTHERVILLE - The NIACC men's wrestling team placed fourth on Sunday at the NJCAA North Central District Championships on the Iowa Lakes campus.
NIACC earned its fourth-place finish with 111 team points. Iowa Central was the team champion with 144.5 points and Iowa Western was second with 130 points.
NIACC picked up four second-place finishes at the district tournament. Placing second for the Trojans were Isaac Church (141), Cordell White (149), Tanner Warden (157) and Jessey Colas (184).
Placing third for the Trojans were Marco Guzman (174) and Xander Kenworthy (197). Earning fourth-place finishes were Emmanuel Celestin (165) and LB Neloms (285).
At 141 pounds, Iowa Western's Malachi Bordovsky edged Church 10-8 in the championship match. Church (13-2) claimed a true second place with a 2 minute, 41 second fall over Iowa Central's Ben Fosdick.
At 149 pounds, Iowa Central's Matt Sarbo pinned White (8-3) in 2:22 in the title match.
At 157 pounds, Iowa Central's Darnai Hearad topped Warden (10-4) 10-7 in the title match.
At 184 pounds, Colas (14-2) stopped Ellsworth's Brent Greenfield 10-5 in the third-place match. Colas then pinned Indian Hills' Darion Thompson in 2:44 in the true second-place match.
NIACC will send nine wrestlers to the NJCAA national wrestling tournament in Council Bluffs on March 1-2.
Qualifing for the national tournament for the Trojans are McKenley Charleus (133), Church (141), White (149), Warden (157), Celestin (165), Guzman (174), Colas (184), Kenworthy (197) and Neloms (285).
