NIACC splits pair with Kansas City CC
- NIACC collects 10 hits in first-game victory
- Olive drives in 5 runs in 10-1 win
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The NIACC softball team split a pair of games Saturday afternoon with Kansas City CC.
NIACC picked up a 10-1 victory in five innings in the opener and dropped the second contest 5-4.
In the first game, NIACC freshman right-hander Macy Kellar (6-3) tossed a 2-hitter with five strikeouts with one walk.
Sophomore leadoff hitter Katy Olive powered the Trojan offense by going 2 for 4, including a double and home run, with five RBIs, which matched a career high. Olive also drove in five runs against Indian Hills this season on March 1.
Olive now has eight home runs this season and 22 for her career. The 22 home runs ranks third on the Trojans' career home run list.
In Saturday's doubleheader, Olive increased her school-record career stolen base record to 96. She also now has scored 108 runs, which ranks second on the school's career list.
Also for the Trojans, Madisyn Bauer and Emily Jones both collected two hits for the Trojans.
NIACC collected 10 hits in the first game Saturday. It is the eighth time this season that the Trojans have reached double figures in the hit category.
In the second game, Bauer and Emily Rigdon both collected two hits.
Kansas City CC scored two runs in the first inning, one run in the second and third innings and one in the fifth inning. NIACC scored two runs in the third inning and single runs in the fifth and seventh frames.
Rigdon (2-4) took the loss for the Trojans. She allowed five runs (4 earned) on eight hits with a career-best four strikeouts and three walks.
NIACC (10-10) returns to action Sunday in a doubleheader with Kansas City CC.
