NIACC's Thomas places second in regional long jump

STORM LAKE - NIACC freshman Terrence Thomas placed second in the long jump Friday at the NJCAA Region 11 track and field championships on the Buena Vista campus.

Thomas, who is from Antigua and Barbuda, earned his second-place finish with a leap of 7.21 meters (23 feet, 8 inches). Indian Hills' Troy Johnson was the regional long jump champion with a jump of 7.23 meters (23-8 3/4).

NIACC freshman Owen Almelien, who is from Greene, placed fourth in the 5,000-meter run in a personal-best time of 15 minutes, 37.49 seconds, which ranks eighth on the school's indoor 5K list.

The NIACC foursome of Ryan Kelly, Quinton Ellis, Hugo Massa and Joey Ringo placed third in the distance medley relay in a time of 11:36.37.

NIACC freshman Colby Krutsinger placed eighth in the weight throw with a personal best toss of 13.05 meters (42-9 3/4), which ranks third on the school's weight throw list.

NIACC freshman Tyreese James placed 10th in the 200 in a time of 22.77. James clocked a personal-best 6.98 in the 60-meter prelims, but did not reach the finals.
