Roberson leads No. 3 NIACC men, 120-107
MASON CITY - Sophomore guard Deundra Roberson scored a career-high 45 points to lead the No. 3 NIACC men's basketball team to a 120-107 victory over the Wartburg College junior varsity Sunday afternoon in the NIACC gym.
Roberson, whose previous career-high was 37 points earlier this season against the Quakderdale Prep Academy, was 19 of 34 from the field, including three 3-point goals, and was four of six from the free-throw line.
The 45 points is the fifth highest single-game point total in school history. It is the most in a game for a Trojan since Walter Smith scored 46 against Iowa Lakes in the 1973-74 season.
NIACC led 47-46 at the half and outscored the Knights 73-61 in the second half.
NIACC improved to 7-0 and is off to its best start since the 2013-14 team started 9-0. It was the seventh straight game to start the season that the NIACC men have scored at least 100 points.
In Sunday's game, the Trojans also received 23 points and nine rebounds from sophomore Trey Sampson. Sophomore Chandler Dean scored a career-high 19 points with five rebounds.
Sophomore Wendell Matthews scored 10 points with nine rebounds, four steals and three blocked shots. Freshman Anthony McDade scored seven points and dished out a career-high 11 assists.
Freshman Jaden Horton scored eight points with seven assists and seven steals.
NIACC returns to action Friday and Saturday at Iowa Central's Great Western Shootout in Fort Dodge. The Trojans face Central CC (Neb.) on Friday (3 p.m.) and Northeast CC (2 p.m.) on Saturday.
