NIACC splits pair of matches
MASON CITY - The NIACC volleyball team split a pair of matches at the NIACC tournament on Friday in the NIACC gym.
NIACC topped Southwestern 3-0 in its opening match. NIACC won 25-20, 25-6, 29-27.
NIACC (8-19 overall) dropped a 3-2 decision to Iowa Lakes in its second match Friday. Iowa Lakes won 25-27, 25-22, 23-25, 25-19, 15-7.
"(Friday) was a tremendous day in the gym," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "It's always exciting to get everyone who is healthy in to play (rarely does this happen).
"We are most proud of how hard they worked to make unique things happen, especially on defense when those touches allow us to keep the play alive."
Sophomore Kyla Moore had 31 kills, 14 blocks and five digs. Ryley Wetlaufer had 50 assists, 22 digs, 10 kills and three blocks.
The Trojans' Tiegan Barkema had 18 kills, nine digs and two blocks. Alyssa Wickersheim had 17 digs, 14 kills, six ace serves and three blocks and Kaylee Ollendieck had 30 digs, three assists and three ace serves.
Also for the Trojans, Abbie Hyde had nine digs, Kennedy Schwiesow had 23 digs and two ace serves, Jade Thomas had nine digs, Abby Suiter had seven blocks and four kills.
The Trojans' Kalayah Kaschub had six blocks and four kills, Iwalani Beltran had nine assists and three digs and Marisa Barragan had four digs and two ace serves.
NIACC faces the Grand View Junior Varsity at 11 a.m. on Saturday and takes on Ellsworth at 1 p.m.
