NIACC falls to Northeast CC, 3-1
MASON CITY - The NIACC volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Northeast CC on Wednesday in an ICCAC contest.
Northeast CC (13-11 overall, 2-4 in the ICCAC) won 25-19, 25-17, 23-25, 25-22.
"We started the match playing with some hesitation," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said, "but slowly gained the confidence they needed to compete.
"We would have loved to see a different outcome, but we will learn from this and keep fighting for each other."
NIACC sophomore setter Ryley Wetlaufer recorded 28 assists to reach the 1,000-career assist mark in Wednesday's match. Wetlaufer, who has 1,027 career assists, became the 13th player in school history to record 1,000 career assists.
"(Wednesday), we also got to celebrate a milestone for our setter," Brandt said. "We are so proud of her and equally proud of the teams that have helped her reach this achievement."
Wetlaufer also had 19 digs, four kills, two blocks and one ace serve.
Also for the Trojans, sophomore Kyla Moore had 15 kills, eight blocks, two digs and two ace serves. Tiegan Barkema had eight kills, 16 digs and one assist.
NIACC's Kaylee Ollendieck had 15 digs, five assists and one ace serve. Kennedy Schwiesow had 15 digs, Abby Suiter had five digs, four blocks and one kill and Jade Thomas had three digs.
The Trojans' Alyssa Wickersheim had seven kills, eight digs, two ace serves and two blocks and Kalayah Kaschub had six kills, one dig and one block.
NIACC (7-18, 3-3) returns to action Friday and Saturday at home with the NIACC tournament.
