NIACC falls to No. 19 DMACC, 3-1
MASON CITY - The NIACC volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 19 DMACC on Wednesday in an ICCAC contest in the NIACC gym.
DMACC (11-6 overall, 4-0 in ICCAC) won 25-18, 25-22, 23-25, 25-22.
"We competed," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "We've been slowly gaining momentum in our play and (Wednesday) it was fun to see the team put it all together.
"We do need to work on moving to our positions with quicker steps and that will give us a better defensive setup."
Sophomore Kyla Moore led the Trojans with a career-high 19 kills with five digs and three blocks. Sophomore Ryley Wetlaufer had a career-best 46 assists, 10 digs and three kills.
The 19 kills by Moore was the most in match for a NIACC player since Grace Tobin had 21 kills against Carl Sandburg College on Oct. 16, 2021. The 46 assists by Wetlaufer was the most in a match by a Trojan since Becca Steffen recorded 47 assists against Hawkeye CC on Jan. 26, 2021.
NIACC's Tiegan Barkema had 14 kills with 11 digs and one block. Kaylee Ollendieck had 21 digs, Kennedy Schwiesow had eight digs and Kalayah Kaschub had seven kills and one block.
Also for the Trojans, Jaida Hansen had two kills and three blocks, Jade Thomas had four digs and Alyssa Wickersheim had eight kills, three ace serves and eight digs.
NIACC (5-14, 2-2) returns to action Oct. 28 at Southwestern in an ICCAC contest.
"We look forward to our practice opportunity (Thursday)," Brandt said, "and then a couple of days off to rest the bodies."
