NIACC places 6th at district tournament
ANKENY - The NIACC women's golf team placed sixth Tuesday the NJCAA Plains District Tournament at Otter Creek Golf Course.
NIACC shot rounds of 360-367 - 727. Barton County CC was the district tournament champion with a 306-307 - 613 and Iowa Western was second with a 302-316 - 618.
NIACC was led by sophomore Alyssa Alert with a 81-90 - 171, which was 24th in the individual medalist competition.
Also for the Trojans, Kirsten Boerjan shot 95-86 - 181, Emma Weiner shot 93-93 - 186, Sophie Lunning shot 91-98 - 189 and freshman Karissa Hoon shot 113-106 - 219.
"Regardless of the outcome (Tuesday)," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said, "which a sixth-place finish isn't bad, this has been a great team to coach.
"The sophomore leadership of Alyssa, Kirsten and Sophie was phenomenal. They really bonded with Karissa and Emma, which will give us a good base for next year.:
Frenz said he will miss his sophomore trio.
"It's always tough to see the sophomores' careers come to an end," the coach said. "They are tremendous people and will be successful in whatever they do. I look forward to continuing our friendships for years to come."
