NIACC shoots 353 on 1st day at Battle of Waterloo
WATERLOO - The NIACC women's golf team shot a 353 on Friday during the first day of the Battle of Waterloo at the Irv Warren Memorial Golf Course.
NIACC is in second place heading into Saturday's second round at the Gates Park Golf Course.
The 353 total for the Trojans was a spring season low. The previous best team round by the Trojans was a 359 on the second day of the Iowa Central Spring Invitational on April 8.
Sophomore Sophie Lunning led the Trojans with a 87, which tied her career best round. Also, sophomores Alyssa Alert and Kirsten Boerjan both shot 88, freshman Emma Weiner shot a career best 90 and freshman Karissa Hoon shot 101.
"Sophie Lunnng continues to be very steady," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. "She's really dialed in at the moment.
"I'm excited for Emma Weiner as she troke through that 100-barrier with a solid 45-45 - 90. She's been frustrated with her game, but I love her competitive fire."
Weiner's previous career best round was 97 at the NIACC Fall Invitational on Sept, 8, 2022.
Simpson College leads the Battle of Waterloo after the first 18 holes with a 347.
"We need to catch Simpson College (Saturday) and we're focused on doing that," Frenz said. "We'd like to bring home that Battle of Waterloo trophy."
