Lunning paces NIACC women at Iowa Central Invite
FORT DODGE - Sophomore Sophie Lunning shot a round of 90 to lead the NIACC women's golf team at the Iowa Central Spring Invitational Friday at the Fort Dodge Country Club.
NIACC is in fifth place in the team standings with a 380. Host Iowa Central is the team leader after the first 18 holes of the two-day tournament with a 341 and William Penn University is in second with a 342.
"Just like the weather, both our teams were very unpredictable (Friday)," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. "We played pretty well a week ago at Fort Madison, but didn't keep that momentum going (Friday).
"I was very pleased with how Sophie Lunning played in the conditions (Friday)."
Also for the Trojans, sophomore Alyssa Alert shot 93, sophomore Kirsten Boerjan shot 97, freshman Karissa Hoon shot 100 and Emma Weiner shot 103.
"Now, everyone else needs to step up and get it done," Frenz said. "It should be a good day (Saturday), so hopefully we come ready to play."
The second round of the Iowa Central Spring Invitational is set for Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
Team standings - Iowa Central 341, William Penn University 342, DMACC 346, Waldorf University 380, NIACC 380, North Central Missouri CC 386, Simpson College 394.
