NIACC women place 8th at Graceland Invite
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The NIACC women's golf team placed eighth at the Graceland University Spring Invitational Saturday at the Mozingo Lake Golf Course.
The Trojans shot 415-383 - 798 in the two-day, 10-team tournament.
"This was a tough test for the women this weekend," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. "The course was playing long and I thought we adapted much better (Saturday)."
Sophomore Alyssa Alert led the Trojans with a 96-94 - 190 to place 23rd in the indivldual medalist competition. Sophomore Kirsten Boerjan shot 104-91 - 195.
"Kirsten did a great job of battling through a tough stretch of holes," Frenz said, "and Alyssa struggled off the tee, which normally is her strongest asset. So she'll work on that in the simulator and have that worked out by Tuesday."
Also for the Trojans, sophomore Sophie Lunning shot 103-94 - 197. Freshman Emma Weiner shot 112-104 - 216 and Karissa Hoon shot 114-108 - 222.
"Each one of them know what we need to work on." Frenz said, "so now hopefully the weather gets better and we can get out and do that."
Lunning had a nine-stroke improvement from Friday to Saturday.
"I thought Sophie Lunning played really well (Saturday)," Frenz said. "She doesn't hit the ball far but normally she doesn't get herself into trouble.
"(Saturday) her shot was game was pretty good and so was her putter."
Weiner and Hoon both lowered their scores from Friday to Saturday.
"Emma and Karissa both played decent overall (Saturday)," Frenz said, "but they weren't happy with their scores. So I like the fight they have and they'll keep working hard."
Bellevue University was the team champion with a 330-323 - 653 and Park University was second with a 347-338 - 685.
NIACC returns to action Tuesday at the Iowa Wesleyan Spring Tiger Classic in Fort Madison.
