NIACC places fourth at Viking Invite
ANKENY - The NIACC women's golf team shot a 363 Tuesday at the second day of the Grand View Viking Invitational at the Otter Creek Golf Course.
NIACC's two-day total in its final tournament of the fall season was 340-363 - 703 and placed fourth. Host Grand View was the team champion with a 312-316 - 703.
"Overall, this was a good couple of days for this team," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. "They're disappointed they didn't play better (Tuesday) after an outstandind day (Monday).
"With a shot gun start, starting in the middle of the courseon some difficult opening holes and windy conditions, I thought they played pretty well."
NIACC was led by sophomore Alyssa Alert, who shot 76-87 - 163. Sophomore Kirsten Boerjan shot 78-86 - 164.
Also for the Trojans, sophomore Sophie Lunning shot 91-90 - 181 and freshman Karissa Hoon shot 95-99 - 194.
"We had a few too many holes with big numbers," Frenz said, "and when it's windy it's hard to get thos back.
"This was a good way to end the fall season. We know we can compete with some of the best teams in our league. We just need to be consistent. A lot of positives can be taken away from the past few days."
