NIACC women fall to No. 5 Reivers, 56-53
COUNCIL BLUFFS - The NIACC women's basketball team dropped a 56-53 decision to No. 5 Iowa Western Wednesday in an ICCAC contest.
NIACC (10-5 overall, 3-1 in the ICCAC) outscored the Reivers 17-4 in the fourth quarter to trim the deficit to three points in the final seconds and had a chance to tie the contest on the final possession of the contest.
Iowa Western (11-2, 4-1) outscored NIACC 24-11 in the second quarter to take a 30-22 lead at the half. The Reivers outscored the Trojans 22-14 in the third quarter to take s 52-36 lead heading into the final 10 minutes.
Iowa Western was led by Aleshia Jones with a game-high 24 points, including six three-point goals. Courtney Fields was next in line for the Reivers with 10 points.
NIACC was led by sophomore point guard Audrey Martinez-Stewart with 16 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
Also for the Trojans, Kourtney Manning, Jackie Pippett and Keira Anderson all scored 10 points. Manning also had four rebounds and two assists.
Pippett also had four rebounds and three steals and Anderson had three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
NIACC returns to action Saturday at home against Northeast CC. Game time in the NIACC gym is slated for 1 p.m.
