NIACC's Thomas wins long jump at NJCAA Region 11 championships
COUNCIL BLUFFS - NIACC freshman Terrence Thomas won the long jump Saturday at the NJCAA Region 11 championships.
Thomas won the event in a school record leap of 24-5 3/4 (7.46 meters), which broke his old mark of 24-3 1/2 (7.40 meters) set at the Jim Duncan Invitational on April 12.
The long jump title by Thomas was his fifth of the outdoor track and field season.
Thomas also qualified for the finals in the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.84 seconds, which ranks seventh on NIACC's all-time 100 list. NIACC's Quinton Ellis also qualified for the 100 finals in a time of 11.00.
NIACC placed third in the 4x800-meter relay in a time of 8:09.59 running Eli Bergman, Owen Almelien, Jacob Vais and Bryson Canton.
NIACC's Rodney Ngezimani placed eighth in the discus with a toss of 125-3 (38.19 meters) and Colby Krutsinger was eighth in the shot put with throw of 38-2 1/4 (11.65 meters).
