NIACC's Thomas wins long jump at DeBacker Invite
CEDAR RAPIDS - NIACC freshman Terrence Thomas won the long jump and placed second in the triple jump Saturday at the Mount Mercy DeBacker Invitational.
Thomas won the long jump with a leap of 7.00 meters and earned his second-place finish in the triple jump with a jump of 12.48 meters.
Thomas is a perfect 4 for 4 in long jump competition in the outdoor track and field season. Thomas also owns long jump wins at the Emporia State Relays (7.38 meters), Wartburg Select (7.24 meters) and Jim Duncan Invitational (7.40 meters).
Also for the Trojans Saturday, Ryan Kelly was second in the 5,000-meter run (15 minutes, 54.69 seconds), Owen Almelien was third in the 1,500 (4:13.76), Jacob Vais was third in the 800 (2:00.83), Parker McHone was fourth in the 400 hurdles (1:01.36) and Bruce Huggins was fifth in the 400 (50.83).
Also in the 1,500, NIACC's Bryson Canton was fourth in 4:15.08 and Joey Ringo was ninth (4:25.23).
In the 800, Ringo was 11th in 2:08.60.
In the long jump, McHone was 10th (5.90 meters).
In the hammer throw, NIACC's Colby Krutsinger was 11th with a toss of 41.23 meters.
In the discus, the Trojans' Rodney Ngezimani was 12th (37.86).
In the 4x100-meter relay, the Trojans was third in a time of 43.25 running Thomas, Tyreese James, McHine and Quinton Ellis.
