NIACC's Canton places 4th in steeplechase at regionals
COUNCIL BLUFFS - NIACC freshman Bryson Canton placed fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase Sunday at the NJCAA Region 11 outdoor track and field championships.
Canton earned his fourth-place finish with a time of 10 minutes, 21.76 seconds as the Trojans placed fifth with 44 points.
Iowa Western was the regional champion with 281 points and Iowa Central was second with 258 points.
NIACC's Perez Hemmings placed sixth in the 110 hurdles in a time of 15.22. The 15.22 is a personal best for Hemmings ranks second on the school's all-time 110 hurdles list.
The Trojans' Josiah Kliment placed sixth in the 400 hurdles in a school record time of 55.46. He broke is old school mark of 55.52 set at the Jim Duncan Invitational in April.
In the 5,000, NIACC's Vlad Starrett was seventh in a time of 17:49.66.
NIACC's Jacob Vais was 10th in the 800 in a time of 1:58.39 and Matt Seberson was 10th in the triple jump with a leap of 41 feet, 9 1/4 inches.
Vais' time of 1:58.39 ranks 10th on the school's all-time outdoor 800 list.
NIACC placed third in the 4x800 relay in a time of 8:15.58 running Canton, Hugo Massa, Starrett and Vais.
The Trojans placed fourth in the 4x400 (3:26.58) running Vais, Bruce Huggins, Massa and Canton.
In the 4x100, the Trojans were sixth in 43.87 with the foursome of Dylan Novak, Huggins, Parker McHone and Hemmings.
