NIACC's Steene sets school indoor high jump mark
WAVERLY - In his first collegiate meet, NIACC's Fabian Steene made history Saturday.
Steene, a freshman from Gothenburg, Sweden, set the NIACC men's track and field indoor high jump record with a leap of 6 feet, 6 3/4 inches with his third place finish at the Wartburg College Chelsey Henkenius Open.
Steene's school record setting leap also qualified him for the NJCAA Division I national indoor meet.
Steene broke the 10-year old mark of 6-4 held by Jacob Gapp set at the University of Northern Iowa Panther Open in 2013.
Also Saturday at the Trojans' season-opening indoor meet, freshman Bryson Canton won the 800-meter run in a time of 2:00.99. Canton was also fourth in the mile in 4:37.65.
NIACC's Jacob Vais was ninth in the mile in 4:52.10.
NIACC sophomore Matt Seberson was sixxh in the triple jump with a leap of 39-10 1/2 and was 12th in the long jump (18-4 1/4).
In the 200, freshman Bruce Huggins was eighth in 23.81.
In the 400, sophomore Hugo Massa was fourth in 54.80.
