NIACC men place sixth at Clarke Fall Invite
GALENA, Ill. - The NIACC men's golf team opened its 2023 fall season Tuesday by placing sixth at the Clarke University Fall Invitational.
The Trojans shot a 329 at the Eagle Ridge Golf Course to claim their sixth-place finish. Sophomore Anders Palmquist led the Trojans with an 80 (tied for 12th in individual medalist competition) and sophomore Elic Fjetland shot an 81, which was tied for 17th.
The 80 by Palmquist was two shots off his career best round of 78 shot at the Battle of Waterloo on April 14, 2023.
Other counting scores for the Trojans were a pair of 84s from sophomores Tim Castle and Jackson Koebernick. Mitchell Staudt shot a 94.
"The guys aren't pleased with their scores (Tuesday)," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said, "and we can definitely be better, but this gives us something to work with.
"Anders Palmquist and Elic Fjetland led the way (Tuesday), which was good to see. If we can get a good effort out of that three to five spot, we'll be OK in the future."
The Viterbo A team was the team champion with a team score of 306. Iowa Central was second at 309 and Hawkeye CC was third at 310.
Also for the Trojans in their season-opening tournament, Bennett Suntken shot an 88 and Noah Atkinson shot a 94.
NIACC returns to action Monday at the Iowa Central Fall Invitational at the Fort Dodge Country Club.
"We look forward to teeing it up Monday at Fort Dodge," Frenz said.
