NIACC falls to Northeast CC, 8-7
WEST BURLINGTON - The NIACC baseball team's season came to a close Friday night with a 8-7 loss to Northeast CC in an elimination game at the NJCAA Region 11 tournament at Community Field.
NIACC (24-29) jumped out to an early lead with four runs in the first inning. The Trojans scored single runs in the fifth, seventh and eighth innings. Brayden Hellum gave the Trojans a 7-4 cushion with a solo home run in the eighth inning.
Northeast CC, however, responded with four runs of its own in its half of the eighth inning. Cade Grevengoed hit a three-run home run for the Hawks.
Hellum was 2 for 5, including a double and home run, and scored two runs. The double was Hellum's 19th of the sesason, which is tied for 10th on the school's all-time single-season list.
Also for the Trojans, Adam Berghult was 2 for 4, including two doubles and one RBI. Eli Anderson was 3 for 4 with two RBIs.
Northeast CC moved onto Saturday's elimination game against Kirkwood.
