NIACC splits pair with No. 8 Tritons

MASON CITY - The NIACC baseball team split a pair of ICCAC contests with No. 8 Iowa Central on Saturday afternoon at Roosevelt Field.
NIACC won the first game 15-7 and the Tritons took the second game 9-7.
In the first game, NIACC pounded out 11 hits, including home runs from Bennett McCollow, Adam Berhult and Lincoln Berry.
NIACC (18-26 overall, 14-13 in the ICCAC) scored three runs in the first inning, plated six runs in the third inning, five runs in the fifth inning and one run in the fifth frame.
Berry was 2 for 5 with five RBIs and scored two runs. McCollow was 2 for 3 and scored three runs. Eli Anderson was 2 for 4 and scored two runs.
In the second game, Iowa Central (38-9, 19-8) scored three runs on one hit in its half of the ninth inning to take a 9-7 lead and the Tritons held the Trojans scoreless in the bottom of the ninth inning to salvage the split in the twinbill.
NIACC scored four runs in the third inning, one run in the sixth inning and pushed across two runs in the seventh inning.
NIACC's Will Couchman led off the sixth inning with a home run and McCollow led off the seventh frame with his second home run of the day.
McCollow now has 12 home runs this season and 24 for his career, which ranks fifth on the school's career list.
NIACC's Alex Berreth was 2 for 3 and scored two runs and Couchman was 3 for 4.
NIACC and Iowa Central wrap up their 3-game series with a single nine-inning game on Sunday at Roosevelt Field. First pitch is slated for noon.
