NIACC tops Marshalltown CC, 28-6
MARSHALLTOWN - The NIACC baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Marshalltown CC Saturday with a 28-6 seven-inning victory.
NIACC pounded out 29 hits to score its 28 runs. Adam Berghult collected five hits and Brock Goelz and John Doty both had four hits.
NIACC hit eight home runs for the second straight game against the Tigers. Doty hit two home runs and Berghult, Colin Evers, Will Couchman, Jack Mausser, Ryan McGie and Tyler Froland all hit one home run.
Doty was 4 for 4 with eight RBIs. Berghult drove in four runs and Mausser and Froland both drove in three runs.
The eight RBIs by Doty is the second time since the 2013 season that a NIACC player has collected eight RBIs in a single game. Cole Fuecker drove in eight runs in second game of a doubleheader against Marshalltown CC on April 24, 2022.
NIACC used two 11-run innings on its way to its 28 runs. The Trojans scored 11 runs in the fourth inning and 11 Trojans also touched home plate in the sixth frame.
NIACC outscored the Tigers 81-19 in the three-game series. The Trojans topped Marshalltown 19-8 and 34-5 in Friday's twinbill.
Ben Rosin (4-1) gained the win on the mound for the Trojans. Rosin struck out nine, walked two, scattered five hits and allowed three runs in five innings of work.
NIACC (13-18 overall, 9-5 in the ICCAC) returns to action Wednesday at home against Kirkwood in a single nine-inning game. Game time at Roosevelt Field is slated for 1 p.m.
