MARSHALLTOWN - The NIACC baseball team swept Marshalltown CC 19-8 and 34-5 on Friday in an ICCAC twinbill.
It is the eighth time this season that the Trojans have scored at least 10 runs in a contest.
The 34 runs is the most in a game since the Trojans topped Marshalltown CC 26-1 in the second game of a doubleheader on April 23, 2022.
The last time the Trojans scored 30 runs in a game came in a 30-1 win over Miami-Middletown on March 11, 2013.
In the second game, NIACC (12-18 overall, 8-5 in the ICCAC) pounded out 29 hits to score its 34 runs.
NIACC hit eight home runs, including two each from John Doty and Kade Peloquin. It was the third time this season that two NIACC players hit two home runs in a single game.
The eight home runs is the most by the Trojans in a single game since they hit eight in the second game of a doubleheader against DMACC on April 3, 2016.
Leadoff hitter Brayden Hellum was 5 for 8 with four runs scored and four RBIs.
The five hits by Hellum was the most in a game since Ayrton Laird also collected five hits against Marshalltown CC in second game of a doubleheader on April 24, 2021.
Also for the Trojans in the second game, Darcy Berry was 3 for 4 with four runs scored and three RBIs. Luke Nordean was 3-6 with five runs scored and two RBIs, Adam Berghult was 3 for 5 with three runs scored and two RBIs and Peloquin drove in four runs.
In the first game, NIACC scored nine of its 19 runs in the fourth inning.
NIACC belted four home runs in the opener. Peloquin, Berghult, Bennett McCollow and Lincoln Berry all hit home runs for the Trojans.
McCollow was 2 for 4 with three RBIs, Berry was 4 for 5 with two RBIs, Will Couchman was 3 for 5 with three RBIs and Peloquin was 2 for 4 with four RBIs.
John Lyman (1-0) picked up the win for the Trojans. He did not allow run in three innings of relief allowing one hit with no strikeouts and one walk.
NIACC wraps up its three-game series against Marshalltown CC on Saturday in a single nine-inning contest.
