NIACC tops Ellsworth, 14-4
FORT DODGE - The NIACC baseball team opened the ICCAC season with a 14-4 win over Ellsworth on Wednesday at Harlan Rogers Park.
NIACC plated five runs in the first inning and pushed across four runs in the fourth inning. The Trojans also added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, two runs in the eighth innings and one run in the ninth inning.
NIACC's Lincoln Berry and Adam Berghult both homered twice in Wednesday's contest. The last time two Trojans hit two home runs in the same game was April 21, 2022 when Berry and Cody Kelly both homered in a 14-13 win over Iowa Lakes at Roosevelt Field in Mason City.
It was the eighth time since the 2013 season that two Trojans have homered twice in the same game.
Berghult, who has three home runs, was 4 for 4 with six RBIs and scored three runs. The last time a Trojan had six RBIs in a game was when Bennett McCollow plated six runs in second game of doubleheader against Kirkwood on March 30, 2022.
Berry, who has four home runs, was 3 for 5 with three RBIs and scored three runs.
NIACC's John Doty was 4 for 5, including two doubles, with two RBIs and scored four runs.
Alex Berreth and Darcy Barry also both had two hits for the Trojans. Both of Barry's hits were doubles.
Berry now has four home runs on the season and Berghult has three.
NIACC starter Ben Rosin (2-1) pitched six scoreless innings. Rosin allowed no runs on two hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
NIACC relievers allowed four runs in the seventh inning.
NIACC (5-13 overall, 1-0 in the ICCAC) returns to action Friday and Saturday at No. 4 (NJCAA Division I) iowa Western (16-0 overall). The two teams will play a doubleheader on Friday and a single game on Saturday.
