POPLAR BLUFFS, Mo. - NIACC baseball coach Josh Merrill picked up his first career win on Monday.
NIACC rallied for a 12-11 victory after trailing 6-0 after the first inning and 8-1 after two innings. NIACC's Bennett McCollow hit a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give the Trojans their one run lead.
NIACC, which dropped two games to Three Rivers CC on Sunday, held Three Rivers CC scoreless over the last three innings to give Merrill his first victory in a Trojan uniform. NIACC's Carson Knebel pitched the eighth and the ninth inning to gain the win.
NIACC scored one run in the eighth inning and plated six runs in the ninth inning.
McCollow was 3 for 5, including a double and home run, with five RBIs. Brayden Hellum and Eli Anderson both collected three hits and Colin Evers had two hits.
NIACC returns to action Saturday and Sunday in a three-game series at Allen County CC in Iola, Kan.
