POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. - The NIACC baseball team opened its 2023 season with a pair of losses to Three Rivers CC on Sunday.
Three Rivers CC won the first game 6-5 and took the second game 5-3.
In the first game, NIACC received two-run home run from Ryan McGie and a two-run single from Lincoln Berry. Bennett McCollow also drove in a run with a single.
NIACC starter Ben Rosin struck out seven with one walk while allowing one run on three hits in 4 2/3 innings of work.
Alex Berreth took the loss for the Trojans allowing three runs on two hits with three walks in the seventh inning.
In the second game, NIACC leadoff hitter Brayden Hellum was 3 for 3 with one RBI and one run scored. Berreth also hit a solo home run.
NIACC starter Austin Klug allowed one run on one hit with three strikeouts and two walks in 3 1/3 innings of work.
Three Rivers CC scored four runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-1 lead. NIACC scored two runs in its half of the sixth inning to trim the deficit to 5-3 but that was as close as the Trojans would get.
NIACC wraps up the three-game series with Three Rivers CC with a single game on Monday. Game time is slated for noon.
