NIACC trio set to wrestle in quarterfinals

COUNCIL BLUFFS - Three NIACC wrestlers will be seeking berths in the national semifinals Friday night.

NIACC's Brock Luthens (133), Hunter Luke (141) and Zach Santee (285) all won a pair of matches earlier on Friday at the NJCAA Division I national tournament at the Mid-America Center.

The quarterfinal matches and third-round consolation matches start at 6:15 p.m. Friday.

Luthens (11-7) faces fifth-ranked Quintel Fuchs of Northeastern JC in his 133-pound quarterfinal match.

At 141 pounds, Luke (15-6) takes on Iowa Western's Gad Huseman in the quarterfinals. Luke has pinned Huseman three times this season - twice in the dual meet season and once at the NJCAA Region XI tournament.

At 285 pounds, Santee (12-11) faces Northwest Kansas' Elwin Trejo.

NIACC's Tony Mendoza (149) and Reldon Miller (184) will compete in the consolation round Friday night.

Mendoza (19-7) faces Northeastern's Maverick Keigher in his 149-pound consolation match.

Miller (11-12) wrestles Ellsworth's Jordan Shahrikian in his 184-pound consolation match. Shahrikian pinned Miller when the two met in a dual meet earlier this season.
