NIACC's Buford selected as league's POW
MASON CITY - NIACC freshman Jada Buford was selected as the ICCAC women's basketball player of the week for the week of Nov. 19-26.
It is the second time this season as NIACC women's player has received the league's weekly honor. Freshman Mandy Willems was the league's player of the week for the week of Oct. 29-Nov. 3.
Buford scored a career-high 40 points in a 117-95 win over No. 20 Bryant & Stratton last Sunday. She also added a 21-point performance in the Lady Trojans win over Kalamazoo Valley.
On the year, Buford is averaging 25.8 points per game, third-best in NJCAA Division II. She has also connected on 31 three-pointers this season, which is fifth best among all DII shooters.
The 40 points by Buford is the second time this season a NIACC player has scored at least 40 points in a game. Willems scored 45 points against Bay College on Nov. 3 at the Konigsmark Klassic.
The 40 points is tied for the 13th best single-game performance in NIACC women's history.
No. 10 NIACC (6-2 overall) returns to action Friday and Saturday at the Great Western Classic on the Iowa Central campus. The Lady Trojans face Northeast CC on Friday and NDSCS on Saturday.
