CRESTON — NIACC pounded out 31 hits Monday in a doubleheader vs. Southwestern Community College, but it wasn't enough to help them grab a victory as Southwestern earned wins of 13-8 and 15-12.
"Consistently up and down the lineup we competed in every at-bat and made adjustments at the plate," NIACC coach Christi Weiser said. "It definitely gives us stuff to continue to build on and get better."
NIACC started Game 1 with a five-run first inning and fell off from there. Shelby Low homered and drove in two runs for the Lady Trojans while Shay Vessel added two hits and a pair of RBIs.
NIACC finished Game 2 with 19 hits but was unable to hold off Southwestern in the seventh as it scored three runs to score the three-run victory.
Morgan Thesing-Ritter had four hits and two RBIs for NIACC while Jenni King added two hits and drove in two runs as well. Elise Powers had two doubles and two singles, and Vessel, Low, Britt Litterer and Anna Fosshand added two hits apiece.
NIACC hosts Southwestern Wednesday.
