PELLA - The NIACC baseball team split a nonconference doubleheader with the Central College Junior Varsity on Wednesday.
The Central College JV won the first game 5-3 and NIACC won the second game 15-2 in five innings.
In the first game, NIACC was held to two hits (a double from Will Sturek and a triple from Gabe Eckstaine).
In the second game, the Trojans pounded out 15 hits to score their 15 runs. Leadoff hitter Anthony Catalano was 4 for 4 with 2 RBIs and scored three runs.
Also in the second game, Fox Leum was 3 for 4, including a home run, with five RBIs.
Tyson Tucker (1-1) and Jake Hausmann combined to hold the Dutch to two runs and three hits. Tucker pitched three innings allowing two runs on one hit with five strikeouts and four walks to gain the win.
Hausmann held the Dutch scoreless over the final two frames. Hausmann allowed two hits, struck out two and walked three.
NIACC (14-17 overall) returns to action Sunday and Monday in an ICCAC series against league-leading Southeastern at Roosevelt Field. Doubleheaders start both days at 1 p.m.
