NIACC tops DCTC, 8-4
ROSEMOUNT, Minn. - The NIACC baseball team topped DCTC 8-4 in the first game of a doubleheader on Tuesday.
The second game was suspended due to darkness after the top of the sixth inning with DCTC leading 8-7. The suspended game will be finished on May 1 in Mason City before a regularly scheduled twinbill.
Ryan Swanson (2-0) gained the win for the Trojans. He allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks in six innings of work. Michael Sturek recorded the final two outs in the seventh to collect his first career save.
NIACC sophomore Ben Fitzgerald was 2 for 5 with three RBIs, including a home run. Anthony Catalano, Gabe Denton and Carson Parker also all had two hits for the Trojans.
NIACC (11-13 overall) returns to action Friday in its home opener against RCTC. The single nine-inning game is slated to start at 4 p.m. at Roosevelt Field.
The Trojans will also host Kirkwood in a four-game ICCAC series on Saturday and Sunday. The Saturday twinbill starts at 2 p.m. with the Sunday doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
