YANKTON, S.D. - The NIACC baseball team splits its season-opening ICCAC series with Northeast CC.
NIACC, which split the first two games of the series on Monday, dropped the first game to Northeast on Tuesday 3-1 and gained a 5-1 victory in the second game.
In the first game, Northeast scored one run in the first inning and pushed across two runs in the fourth frame.
Patrick Pridgen (3-1) took the loss for the Trojans. He allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits with seven strikeouts and two walks in six innings of work.
NIACC's lone run came in the fourth inning on an RBI triple by Kyle Pike.
In the second game, NIACC's Tom Skoro (2-3) gained the win. Skoro allowed one run on five hits with four strikeouts and four walks in six innings of work. Harrison Beethe pitched two scoreless in innings and relief and Brodie Pauslon tossed a scoreless ninth inning.
Skoro collected his 10th career win and became 13th pitcher in school history with at least 10 career wins. Skoro improved his career strikeout total to 108, which ranks sixth on the school's all-time career list.
NIACC plated three runs in the fourth inning and added insurance runs in the sixth and ninth innings.
NIACC received a solo home run from Fox Leum, who now has 13 career home runs. The Trojans received RBIs from Ben Fitzgerald, Leum, Anthony Catalano, Carson Parker and Ross Cochran.
NIACC (9-10 overall, 2-2 in the ICCAC) returns to action Saturday and Sunday in an ICCAC series against DMACC in Boone.
