COUNCIL BLUFFS - The NIACC baseball team split a nonconference doubleheader with Iowa Western on Monday.
Iowa Western won the first game 3-0 and the Trojans won the second game 4-0.
In the first game, the Reivers scored two runs in the third inning and plated a solo insurance run in the sixth frame. NIACC's Michael Oh took the loss allowing two earned runs with seven strikeouts and one walk.
In the second game, the Trojans plated all four of their runs in the fourth inning, including a solo home run from Anthony Catalano.
Also for the Trojans, sophomore Ben Fitzgerald was 2 for 4, including a double, with a RBI.
Gaining the win for the Trojans was Patrick Pridgen, who pitched five innings of shutout ball with five strikeouts. Caden Kratz pitched a scoreless sixth with two strikeouts and Harrison Beethe held the Reivers scoreless with one strikeout in the seventh inning.
The shutout by the Trojans was the first since they blanked Iowa Central 4-0 in the first game of a ICCAC doubleheader on April 22, 2018.
NIACC (7-8) opens ICCAC play Saturday and Sunday at Northeast CC.
