NIACC's Thomas places 5th at Grand View Open

DES MOINES - NIACC freshman Destinee Thomas placed fifth in the gold division at 235 pounds at the Grand View Open on Saturday.

Thomas (6-7 overall) was 2-2 at the open tournament.

Thomas opened the tournament by pinning Baker University's Madi Hargett in 2 minutes, 38 seconds.

In the semifinals, Indian Hills' Eliana Bommarito pinned Thomas in :16.

In the consolation bracket, Wayland Baptist's Leilani Sanchez stuck Thomas in 4:17.

In the fifth-place match, Thomas edged Iowa Central's Rose Rather, 6-3.

Rather had topped Thomas 4-1 in a dual meet last Wednesday in Mason City.
