NIACC drops pair of matches

NORFOLK, Neb. - The NIACC volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Thursday to Northeast CC and North Platte CC.

Northeast CC topped the Trojans 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 26-24) in an ICCAC contest. North Platte stopped NIACC 3-2 (25-23, 23-25, 17-25, 25-17, 16-14).

"We continue to build even though the outcome isn't what we want - lots of learning opportunities throughout the matches," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "The team shows resilience by continuing to push and work through the hard - one of our biggest obstacles is learning how to finish."

In the two matches, NIACC freshman Emma Miller had 14 kills, 39 digs, three assists, two ace serves and one block. Sophomore Emily Opstvedt had 36 assists, nine digs and six ace serves.

Also for the Trojans, sophomore Ellie Hanna had 13 kills, eight blocks, four digs and one ace serve. Freshman Hannah Brinkman had 19 kills and seven blocks.

NIACC's Kinsey Anderson had 25 digs, two assists and one ace serve, Addison Tabbert had 19 digs, one block and one ace serve and Alicia Machacek had six kills and one block.

The Trojans' Megan Tobin had 21 digs, 10 kills and four blocks, Kenedee Frayne had 29 assists, 15 digs and two ace serves, Kit Byars had 10 kills and nine blocks and Alana Burton had seven kills and three blocks.

Byars, a sophomore from Lake Mills, now has 207 career kills.

NIACC (9-14 overall, 2-3 in the ICCAC) returns to action Wednesday in an ICCAC contest at Southeastern. Match time in West Burlington is set for 7 p.m.
