NIACC falls to Western Iowa Tech, 3-2

MASON CITY - The NIACC volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision to Western Iowa Tech Tuesday night in an ICCAC contest in the NIACC gym.
Western Iowa Tech (12-8 overall, 3-1 in the ICCAC) won 20-25, 25-20, 22-25, 29-27, 15-4.
"Unfortunately, we didn't come with the right mindset (Tuesday)," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said, "and even with an amazing crowd, we didn't seem to play to our potential more than a few points at a time.
"Every point has a story and every outcome has a lesson. (Tuesday), we can learn so tomorrow we can prepare for another big day of play on Thursday."
NIACC freshman Megan Tobin recorded 11 kills, seven digs and five blocks. Sophomore Ellie Hanna had seven kills, seven digs, four blocks and one assist.
The Trojans' Emily Opstvedt had 23 assists, 11 digs, two ace serves and one kills and Hannah Brinkman had eight kills and four digs.
Also for the Trojans, freshman Kinsey Anderson had 15 digs, two assists and two ace serves. Freshman Emma Miller had nine kills, 15 digs, one ace serve and one block.
NIACC's Addison Tabbert had seven digs and one ace serve, Alicia Machacek had four kills and four blocks, Kenedee Frayne had 14 assists, six digs and one kill and Kit Byars had four kills and five blocks.
NIACC (9-12, 2-2) returns to action Thursday with a pair of matches in Norfolk, Neb. The Trojans face Northeast CC in an ICCAC contest and also face North Platte CC.
