NIACC goes 1-1 at Heartland CC Tournament

NORMAL, Ill. - The NIACC volleyball team split a pair of matches Friday at the Heartland CC Tournament.

NIACC (7-9 overall) topped Harper College 3-1 winning by the scores of 18-25, 25-16, 26-24, 17-14. No. 14 Sauk Valley CC topped NIACC 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-16).

"We entered this tournament to challenge ourselves and see what we can do against some of the best competition around," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "(Friday) we saw some really good things from our team and some really poor things when we decide not to focus on the things in our control.
 
"Every point has a story and plenty of lessons learned. (Saturday), we face a couple more challenging opponents and we look forward to the opportunities to complete."
 
NIACC freshman Hannah Brinkman had 13 kills, four blocks and three digs. The Trojans' Kit Byars had 11 kills and six blocks.
 
Also for the Trojans, Ellie Hanna had seven kills, seven blocks and two ace serves, Emily Opstvedt had 29 assists, five digs and four ace serves and Kenedee Frayne had 20 assists, eight digs and five ace serves.
 
NIACC's Kinsey Anderson had 19 digs, six assists, two ace serves and one kill, Addison Tabbert had four kills, seven digs and one ace serve, Alicia Machacek had six kills and one dig and Destiny Reasner had 11 digs and two ace serves.
 
The Trojans' Emma Miller had five kills, 11 digs, five kills and two blocks, Megan Tobin had 10 kills, seven digs and two blocks and Alana Burton had three kills and two blocks.
 
NIACC returns to action Saturday at the Heartland CC Tournament. The Trojans play The Trojans play No. 7 Heartland CC and No. 3 Parkland College.
