NIACC drops pair at Triton Invitational

FORT DODGE - The NIACC volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Friday at the Iowa Central Triton Invitational.
Neosho County CC topped NIACC 3-1 (25-17, 26-28, 25-16, 25-18) and Metropolitan CC stopped the Trojans 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-13).
"We did a really nice job focusing on some fundamentals and that allowed us to play well together," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "Unfortunately, there was a few opportunities where we lost that focus and that allowed a run of points from our opponents. We are happy with the growth we saw and hope to build on that (Saturday)."
NIACC sophomore Alyssa Wickersheim had 20 kills, 18 digs, three ace serves and three blocks. NIACC's Jaida Hansen had 17 kills, six digs and three blocks.
Also for the Trojans, Abbie Hyde had 16 digs, Kennedy Schwiesow had 32 digs and three ace serves, Alicia Machacek had four blocks and two kills and Ellie Hanna had seven kills, six blocks and two digs.
NIACC's Emily Opstvedt had 20 assists and 11 digs, Iwalani Beltran had 33 assists and 23 digs and Kit Byars had six blocks, five digs and two ace serves.
NIACC (12-22 overall) returns to action Saturday with a pair of matches at the Triton Invitational. The Trojans face Cowley County CC at 9:30 a.m. and Carl Sandburg College at 11:15 a.m.
