NIACC falls to Kirkwood, 3-0

CEDAR RAPIDS - The NIACC volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Kirkwood in the opening round of the NJCAA Region XI-B tournament on Saturday.
Kirkwood won 25-14, 25-10, 25-13.
"It never gets easier to face this day - the day when the season comes to an end," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "It's impossible to put into words the kind of challenges this team faced and continued to work hard for each other.
"The journey of the seven sophomores and the example they have provided for the freshman will be the foundation they need to grow over the next few months."
NIACC (10-27 overall) was led by sophomore Ryley Wetlaufer with 13 assists, 10 digs, three ace serves and one kill. Sophomore Kaylee Ollendieck had 13 digs.
Also for the Trojans, Jaida Hansen had four kills, two blocks and one dig, Abbie Hyde had three digs and Kennedy Schwiesow had two digs. Tiegan Barkema had three kills, six digs and one block, Kyla Moore had three kills, six digs and one block and Alyssa Wickersheim had four kills.
Second-seed Kirkwood (32-8) hosts third-seed DMACC (22-14) at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the NJCAA Region XI-B title match.
