MASON CITY - The NIACC volleyball team split a pair of matches Friday at its home triangular in the NIACC gym.

NIACC topped DCTC 3-0 in the first match of the triangular  The Trojans won 25-16, 25-22, 25-21.

The Trojans also dropped a 3-0 decision to Marshalltown CC. The Tigers won 25-14, 25-23, 25-23.

"We did a good job giving ourselves opportunities to keep the ball in play as well as forcing the opponent out-of-system," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "Probably. the most important aspect of the week - we competed.
"We are still learning about what this team needs to be successful, but through all the challenges, they continue to fight and support each other."
Sophomore Tiegan Barkema led the Trojans with 22 kills and 17 digs. Sophomore Kyla Moore had 20 kills, eight blocks and five digs.
NIACC's Kaylee Ollendieck had 28 digs, seven assists and two ace serves and Iwalani Beltran had 36 assists, 21 digs, three kills and three ace serves.
Also for the Trojans, Jaida Hansen had six blocks and four kills, Jade Thomas had 11 digs and two kills, Kalayah Kaschub had seven kills and three blocks and Alyssa Wickersheim had 11 kills and eight digs.
NIACC (5-13 overall) returns to action Wednesday at home against DMACC in an ICCAC contest starting at 7 p.m. in the NIACC gym.
"We are looking forward to a couple of days of rest before we get back in the gym Monday," Brandt said.
