NIACC tops Ellsworth in league opener

IOWA FALLS - The NIACC volleyball team topped Ellsworh 3-2 in its ICCAC opener Wednesday night.
NIACC won 25-20, 24-26, 16-25, 25-17, 15-6.
"Playing at the Ellsworth gym is always a tough environment," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "They create a loud gym that makes it hard to find our tempo.
"We had some nerves to play through but once the team and our bench came alive, our confidence also increased."
Freshman Jaida Hansen led NIACC with a career-best 13 kills and two blocks. The Trojans' Kyla Moore had 11 kills, seven blocks (career-high), two digs and one ace serve.
NIACC's Ryley Wetlaufer had 36 assists, 11 digs, a career-best nine kills, two blocks and two ace serves. Alyssa Wickersheim had seven kills, six digs and three ace serves and Tiegan Barkema had six kills, 20 digs and four blocks.
Also for the Trojans, Kaylee Ollendieck had 13 digs, two kills, two ace serves and two assists, Abbie Hyde had nine digs, Kennedy Schwiesow had 10 digs, 1 ace serve and one assist and Abby Suiter had six kills and two blocks.
NIACC (3-6 overall, 1-0 in the ICCAC) hosts the Wartburg College Junior varsity at 7 p.m. Thursday in its home opener in the NIACC gym.
