NIACC splits pair of matches at Northeast CC tourney

NORFOLK, Neb. - The NIACC volleyball team topped Southeast CC and fell to Northeast CC Saturday at the Northeast CC tournament.

IACC (2-6 overall) topped Southeast CC 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-22) in veteran coach Chris Brandt's first-ever meeting against Southeast CC. The Trojans dropped a 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-22) decision to host Northeast CC in its second match on Saturday.

 
"Undoubtedly, it was another weekend of difficult travel, challenging opponents and unlimited learning opportunities," Brandt said. "Learning what this team needs to be successful and continuing to put in the hard work will help us prepare for our conference opener next week."
On Saturday, Tiegan Barkema led NIACC with 17 kills and 23 digs. Kyla Moore had 11 kills, four digs and three blocks and Alyssa Wickersheim had 11 kills and 16 digs.
Also for NIACC, Ryley Wetlaufer had 19 assists, 13 digs, four ace serves and three kills. Kaylee Ollendieck had 15 digs and three ace serves.
The Trojans' Jaida Hansen had five kills and four blocks, Abbie Hyde had eight digs, Abby Suiter had three blocks, Kalayah Kaschub had three kills and two blocks and Iwalani Beltran had 18 assists, two ace serves and seven digs.
NIACC opens ICCAC play Wednesday and Ellsworth. The Trojans host the Wartburg College JV on Thursday in their home opener.
