NIACC drops pair at OWT All-In Tournament

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The NIACC volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Saturday at the OWT All-In Tournament.

NIACC (1-3 overall) dropped a 3-2 decision to Mesabi Range CTC and also fell to College of DuPage 3-1.

Mesabi Range won 25-14, 25-23, 20-25, 12-25, 15-10. College of DuPage won 25-17, 25-20, 22-25, 25-18.

"(Saturday) we learned a lot as a team and the experience we gained this weekend is invaluable," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "Learning how to control our unforced errors while still playing aggressive will be a theme while we prepare this week.

"Additionally, learning how to play to win instead of going through the motions will also be something we focus on before another challenging weekend."

Against Mesabi Range CTC, NIACC's Ryley Wetlaufer had 41 assists, which is the most in a single match since Becca Steffen had 44 assists against Northeast CC on Jan. 28, 2021. Also, the Trojans' Alyssa Wickersheim had nine ace serves, which is the most in a match since Connor Gauch had nine ace serves against Highland CC (Ill.) on Aug. 25, 2017.

NIACC's Tiegan Barkema recorded 26 kills with 19 digs and two ace serves. The Trojans' Ryley Wetlaufer had 63 assists, 16 digs, 11 kills and three ace serves and Kyla Moore had 15 kills, four ace serves, four digs and seven blocks.

Also for the Trojans, Jaida Hansen had nine kills and four blocks, Kaylee Ollendieck had 20 digs, Abbie Hyde had eight digs and Kennedy Schwiesow had 11 digs and three ace serves.

NIACC's Jade Thomas had five digs, Kalayah Kaschub had five kills and three blocks and Alyssa Wickersheim had 12 kills, 12 ace serves and four digs. 

NIACC returns to action next weekend (Aug. 26-27) at the Northeast CC Tournament in Norfolk, Neb.
