NIACC goes 1-1 at NDSCS tournament

WAPHETON, N.D. - The NIACC volleyball team was 1-1 at the NDSCS tournament on Saturday.
NIACC topped Central Lakes College-Brainerd 3-2 - winning 25-20, 15-25, 21-25, 25-15, 16-14. Bismarck State College topped the Trojans 3-1 - 22-25, 25-13, 25-22, 25-16.
"This was a very good tournament for us to grow as a team," said NIACC coach Chris Brandt, whose squad was 2-2 at the weekend tournament. "Lots of things out of our control that we just had to figure out and keep playing.
"(Saturday) the team learned how to play with composure and that gave us a better defensive position and more offensive options."
NIACC (9-11 overall) was led by Grace Tobin with 37 kills, 28 digs, 10 blocks and three ace serves. Samantha Coron had 47 assists, 25 digs, 13 kills and four ace serves.
NIACC's Halsie Keltner had 36 digs, 17 kills and eight assists. Kyla Moore had 14 kills, 10 blocks and five digs.
Also for the Trojans, Kaylee Ollendieck had four assists, two ace serves and 27 digs, Ryley Wetlaufer had six kills, 32 assists, three ace serves and 15 digs, Megan Vidmar had 10 kills and five blocks and Kalayah Kaschub had five blocks.
NIACC returns to action Wednesday at home in an ICCAC match against Southeastern. The match starts at 7 p.m. in the NIACC gym.
