NIACC drops pair to rated foes

WEST BURLINGTON - The NIACC volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions to rated teams Friday at Southeastern CC's Jimmy John's tournament

No. 20 (NJCAA Division II) Heartland CC topped NIACC 25-14, 25-21, 25-20. No. 4 (NJCAA Division II) Illinois Central stopped the Trojans 25-18, 25-17, 25-20.

"The outcome of the day doesn't reflect the growth of this team," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "We played tough and did a nice job adapting to changes that would put ourselves in a better defensive position.

"We are looking forward to another challenging day (Saturday)."

For NIACC on Friday, Grace Tobin had 28 kills with 11 digs and two blocks. Samantha Coron had 24 assists, 21 digs, four kills and three ace serves.

Also for NIACC, Halsie Keltner had 13 kills and 21 digs, Kaylee Ollendieck had four ace serves and 15 digs, Ryley Wetlaufer had 23 assists, 11 digs and two ace serves, Tiegan Barkema had four kills and five blocks and Kyla Moore had seven kills and six blocks.

NIACC (1-5 overall) faces Highland CC (Ill.) at 10 a.m. and No. 17 (NJCAA Division II) Lincoln Land CC at noon on Saturday at the Jimmy John's tournament.
