NIACC splits pair of matches at Jimmy John's Invite
WEST BURLINGTON - The NIACC volleyball team went 1-1 at the Jimmy John's Invitational on Saturday on the Southeastern CC campus.
NIACC topped the St. Ambrose Junior Varsity 3-2 (25-10, 25-17, 23-25, 22-25, 15-12) and dropped a 3-0 decision to Marshalltown CC (26-24, 25-19, 25-14).
"This weekend we had a difficult schedule to play, long matches, and good opponents to face," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "Tournaments are are supposed to push teams and we learned a lot about who we are right now and who we want to be.
"We are excited to have a couple of days to rest our bodies and fortunate to get back in the gym Tuesday to prepare for conference play on Wednesday's home match against DMACC."
On Saturday, NIACC was led by sophomore Kennedy Meister with 24 kills and 34 digs. Freshman Becca Steffen had 44 assists, 13 kills, 13 digs and four ace serves.
Also, Tessa Sienknecht had 16 assists, four ace serves and nine digs; Megan Hollander had six kills and four blocks; Kayla Lentz had five ace serves and 28 digs; Shelby Heston collected 11 kills, three ace serves, 21 digs and 8 blocks; Alexa Loftus had 13 kills and 12 digs; and Braylee Wood had six blocks.
NIACC opens its home season at 7 p.m. Wednesday against DMACC in an ICCAC contest.
