Kirkwood stops NIACC in regional tournament
CEDAR RAPIDS - The NIACC volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to top-seed Kirkwood in the opening round of the NJCAA Region XI-A tournament on Wednesday.
Kirkwood won 25-19, 25-15, 25-11.
"We weren't ready to be done (Wednesday)," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said, "but it just didn't work out.
"We played hard and gave ourselves some great opportunities to run our offense but it just wasn't enough."
Sophomore Becca Konz led the Lady Trojans (8-23) with eight kills.
Also for NIACC, sophomore Amanda Borden led the Lady Trojans with seven kills, seven digs and four assists. Freshman Shelby Heston had five kills and seven digs and freshman Hannah Wagner had five kills and five digs.
NIACC also received five kills and two blocks from sophomore Brooke Greenwood. Also, Kyra Marquez had five digs, Connor Gauch had 11 digs and three assists, Sydney Roush had 15 assists and Hailey Schuller had eight assists.
Kirkwood faces Northeast CC in the Region XI-A title match at noon on Saturday in Iowa Falls. DMACC and Iowa Central meet in the Region XI-B championship at 2 p.m. also in Iowa Falls.
The Region XI-A and B champions advanced to the NJCAA Division II national tournament in Charleston, W.V. on Nov. 16-18
