NIACC wins pair of matches at own tournament

MASON CITY - The NIACC volleyball team won a pair of matches at the NIACC volleyball tournament on Saturday.

NIACC topped Anoka-Ramsey 3-0 in its first match by the scores of 25-23, 25-10, 25-14. The Lady Trojans stopped Marshalltown CC 3-2 in their final match of the day winning 25-14, 18-25, 12-25, 25-23, 15-12.

"We had a good day in the gym," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said, "and we couldn't be more proud of the team effort.  We worked very hard to be disciplined and eliminate our errors and team did a nice job executing this goals."

Hannah Wagner led the Lady Trojans with 31 kills, 27 digs and five blocks in the two matches. Also, Shelby Heston had 17 kills, 18 digs and seven blocks.

Also for NIACC, Brooke Greenwood had 13 kills and 14 blocks, Amanda Borden has 12 kills, 17 digs and eight ace serves, Sydney Roush had 63 assists and 12 digs, Becca Konz had nine kills and five blocks, Sammi Hyde had 15 digs, Connor Gauch had 3 ace serves and nine digs and Hailey Schuller had six assists.

NIACC (6-14 overall) returns to action Wednesday in a nonconference match against the Grand View Junior Varsity in Des Moines. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
